ACCC Statement on the Supreme Court Decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s recent decision on Dobbs overturning its 1973 ruling on Roe v. Wade, the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) has become increasingly concerned with the impact this decision may have on patients with cancer and their care teams.

As the leading education and advocacy organization for our nation’s multidisciplinary cancer care community, we strive to create comprehensive programmatic and policy solutions that will improve the experience and outcomes for patients with cancer. The Supreme Court’s ruling introduces legal complexity that could diminish the integrity of the patient-provider relationship and interfere with the ability of oncology care teams to deliver the full spectrum of treatment options that offer the best outcomes for their patients. In the treatment of cancer, sensitive and complex medical decisions around pregnancy and fertility preservation sometimes need to be made, and patients should retain the autonomy to make these difficult choices in confidence with their providers.

ACCC is committed to partnering with our members and other organizations to aggregate experiences, resources, and education to help the cancer care community better understand and navigate this new landscape in the service of their patients.
