Cancer Program Narrative Description:

Established in 1986, Reston Hospital Center is an acute-care facility serving Reston, Va., and the surrounding areas. The cancer program was established in 1988 with the opening of the medical oncology unit, which provides inpatient and outpatient chemotherapy, biotherapy, and supportive care. The program was re-accredited for three years in 1996 by the ACoS. Radiation oncology was added in late 1998 with state-of-the-art equipment. Reston Hospital Center maintains an active cancer data registry, provides support groups for patients/families at different stages of the disease, and works closely with the American Cancer Society and local hospice units. Future initiatives include the implementation of IMRT and the expansion of the patient resource library.
