Kristin Ferguson, DNP, RN, OCN Joins the Association of Community Cancer Centers As Senior Director, Cancer Care Delivery and Health Policy

Rockville, MD – The Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) announced today the addition of Kristin Ferguson, DNP, RN, OCN as Senior Director, Cancer Care Delivery and Health Policy. Ferguson will lead the organization’s initiatives to improve cancer care delivery across rural, urban, and under-resourced settings, and will also provide support and resources to members of the oncology workforce, working to reshape reimbursement to better meet the needs of patients and providers.

Ferguson brings over ten years of progressive nursing experience to the position, plus a prestigious list of recognitions and awards in cancer care, including the 40 Under 40 in Cancer award in 2019, the Lombardi Hero of the Year Award, the American Cancer Society Graduate Scholarship in Cancer Nursing Practice, and the Oncology Nursing Society Emerging Young Leader Award.

She most immediately served as Clinical Operations Manager for the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital. There, Ferguson oversaw the daily operations of the clinic, ensured services met hospital and ONS standards, and monitored patient data collection, quality of care, and trends in clinical growth. Previous roles include Clinical Nurse Coordinator-Oncology, Assistant Nursing Director/ Patient Care Manager, Surgical Oncology, Clinical Nurse, Surgical Oncology, Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator and Teaching Associate.

Ferguson’s resume includes serving as a voice for nursing and oncology in many policy-making forums, including the ONS Millennial Advisory Panel, the Oncology Nursing Society Congress Planning Team, AACN/ GNSA Policy Committee, Cancer Moonshot Summit and the Biden Cancer Summit town Hall. She has also advised and participated on many research teams and currently is a member of R01, an NINR Funded Research Team at Georgetown University on a grant to research symptom clusters in oncology patients.

It is exploding with advancements, and becoming more specialized than ever,” said Ferguson. “With that comes a need for greater education and advocacy for both the patient and the cancer team, and an increased need for a better understanding of how our healthcare system can be improved to lead to better outcomes for those diagnosed with cancer. “

“Dr. Ferguson’s clinical background, combined with her experience as a patient advocate in health policy, make her a uniquely qualified addition to the ACCC team, as we work to communicate with policymakers on our members’ behalf and then bring that information back to our members,” said Dr.  Randall Oyer, MD, Medical Director, Oncology Program, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health and ACCC President.

Ferguson earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Duke University, her Master of Science in Nursing from Catholic University of America and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston College. She is currently a candidate for a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts.
