CancerBuzz Podcast Hits 50,000 Download Milestone; Celebrates 100 Episodes

ACCC’s Award-Winning On-Demand Audio Show Discusses the Latest Trends in Cancer Care

ROCKVILLE, MD – The Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) today announced the release of the 100th episode of its popular audio podcast, CancerBuzz. Out today, the episode features an interview with ACCC Treasurer, Dr. Nadine Barrett, Director, Office of Health Equity and Disparities, Duke Cancer Institute and Director, Duke Community Connections Core, Duke CTSA, Durham, NC. Dr. Barrett shares her rich history with the Association—from publishing in ACCC’s peer-reviewed journal, to receiving a 2017 ACCC Innovator Award, to developing the ASCO-ACCC Just ASK™ implicit bias training—Dr. Barret shows how ACCC is helping improve diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in our cancer programs and practices.

ACCC developed CancerBuzz in 2019 as a resource for cancer care professionals. In three years, the show has grown to become a popular vehicle for the exchange of new ideas for the multidisciplinary team, earning over 50,000 downloads in its short lifespan. The series covers a broad array of topics, including telehealth and remote patient monitoring, multi-cancer early detection testing, staff resiliency and wellness, sexual health for survivors, and tips for conducting difficult conversations with patients and their families.

On the episode Dr. Barrett discusses her member journey and ACCC’s role in developing education, tools, and resources to support the oncology community.

“ACCC is well positioned to move us forward in advancing equity. ACCC provides the resources, the support, the infrastructure to help cancer centers—community cancer centers, but also comprehensive cancer centers…equity is at the forefront of what we do as an organization.” said Nadine Barrett, PhD, ACCC Board of Trustees Treasurer and Director, Office of Health Equity and Disparities at the Duke Cancer Institute. “The resources offered by ACCC helps cancer care centers share the best and most innovative ideas with each other.”

During the height of the pandemic, CancerBuzz was a trusted resource for professionals on how to deliver care to a vulnerable patient population. Last year, ACCC introduced CancerBuzzTV, to help put a face to some of its members. All episodes are available for free download on major podcast platforms, such as Apple Podcasts, and on the ACCC website.
