Honoring Excellence in Delaware

Congratulations to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute's Nicholas J. Petrelli, MD, FACS! Dr. Petrelli has been honored by the Medical Society of Delaware with the Tilton Award for his efforts to improve cancer care and reduce the cancer mortality rate in Delaware over the past 17 years. Under his leadership, clinical trial participation rates have increased to 27 percent, more more than five times the national average.

Integrative Oncology in Kentucky

On October 8, St. Elizabeth Cancer Center in Edgewood, Kentucky, announced that it has partnered with integrative health and wellness company doTERRA on the implementation of a $5 million integrative oncology clinic to be located on the cancer center's first floor. When the cancer center opens in fall of 2020, the Center for Integrative Oncology will provide complementary therapies like yoga, essential oils, and meditation while conducting clinical trials related to complementary and alternative medicine.

Innovative Treatments in Memphis

West Cancer Center became the first cancer program in the country to utilize a newly approved electric therapy for mesothelioma patients. The NovoTTF-100 uses electric fields to target and disrupt tumor cells, halting their growth while sparing healthy cells.

Interventional Medicine in California

To save women and oncologists time and resources, Loma Linda University Cancer Center has launched a breast pain clinic, becoming the first program in the country to address the issue from a multidisciplinary perspective. While many women experience breast pain, only 7 percent of women experience it as their first symptom of breast cancer; this clinic provides women with medical and psychological intervention in lieu of utilizing oncology services directly.
