Enhancing Patient Communication in Tennessee

West Cancer Center & Research Institute announced that it has partnered with PatientPoint on a new interactive way to share patient information through 3D diagrams, videos on diagnoses and procedures, and instantaneous email or text communication. Screens will be located in every exam room and include information on supportive resources available at the cancer program.

Risk Assessment in Alabama

Southern Cancer Center has expanded its advanced cancer care services to include a cutting-edge cancer risk assessment program. The Genetic Risk Evaluation and Testing (GREAT) program uses precision medicine to conduct a thorough risk risk assessment, testing for inherited gene mutations and presenting patients with proactive, individualized care plans.

Funding Osteosarcoma Research in Maryland

Congratulations to Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center! The cancer program received a $115,000 grant from the St. Baldrick's Foundation to fund Nicolas Llosa's research on osteosarcoma, the most common bone cancer in children and young adults. Llosa's research focuses on understanding how the immune system interacts with osteosarcoma cells, with the goal of developing immunotherapies for the cancer.

Smoking Education During Treatment in St. Louis

A new study by Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine has validated the program's proactive smoking cessation efforts. Through enhanced screening and referrals to cessation services, Siteman has doubled the number of patient assessments, tripled referrals to counseling, and increased the percentage of smokers prescribed medication almost fivefold. The results were published July 17 in Translational Behavioral Medicine.
