Cancer Care Excellence in New Jersey

Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey has been recognized by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a Comprehensive Cancer Center—one of only 50 in the United States—and has been awarded a $15.1 million grant over five years to support research infrastructure. Congratulations!

The Effects of Air Quality on Childhood Cancer Survivors

According to a new study conducted at Huntsman Cancer Institute, childhood cancer survivors are more susceptible to respiratory-related hospitalizations on days with poor air quality. Those who had undergone chemotherapy were twice as likely to need medical attention for respiratory issues.

A Unique Partnership in New York

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, a member of the Empire State Hematology & Oncology Society at ACCC, announced a partnership with Sephora with the goal of raising awareness and funds for skin cancer research. A limited-edition "Sun Safety Kit" will feature 12 products with SPF; $25 of each sale will be donated to the cancer center for its research efforts.

Exciting Discoveries in Tumor Growth

Researchers at Moffitt Cancer Center have discovered a mechanism that allows melanoma cells to become resistant to common drugs that target the BRAF protein and its signaling pathway. This finding directs researchers to examine the potential of HDAC inhibitors to prevent drug resistance in melanoma.
